College for Kids is a summer day camp at Hagerstown Community College where education and fun mix. Their camps offer kids and teens an opportunity to discover the magic of science, creative writing, engineering, computer programming, music theater, and more. The benefits of attending College for Kids are fantastic. Students can explore new subject areas, improve problem-solving skills, build confidence, and make new friends. The week-long camps are taught by qualified instructors from local schools and businesses and are open to elementary and middle school students entering grades 2 through 8. All camps are held at Hagerstown Community College’s campus in June, July, and August.
College for Kids has been providing quality educational opportunities for children and teens in Washington County and the surrounding area for over 30 years.

Grade 2-3: Week 1 (June 20 - 23)
Backyard Bugs | Discover the incredible world of insects, from elegant dragonflies to shiny tiger beetles to flying flowers (butterflies). We'll look for eggs and caterpillars and the evidence they leave behind. We'll look at real bugs to discover how they avoid getting eaten, plus we'll test out way's insects eat. Expect lots of learning disguised as fun and games, plus catching bugs in nets for those up-close looks. Blast Off Into Space | Get ready to blast off into fun. Travel with us through the solar system to explore the planets, stars, sun, and moon. We will explore the solar system and learn about the NASA space program. We Do Robotics, Do You? | Take me to your leader! Wait, you become the leader as you learn to create and program animated robots. Kitchen Chemistry | You'll be "cooking up chemistry" in this highly motivating and creatively yummy chemistry experience. Investigate through cooking, stories, games, music, and experiments. UPcycled Art: Trash to Treasure | From drink coasters to chandeliers, use your imagination to craft beautiful, economical pieces of art! Mad Scientist Training Academy: I Spy | Real science in a real lab! Investigations and experiments come alive as students engage in hands-on activities that ignite their curiosity about science. From elephant toothpaste to lemon volcanoes, students will be immersed in the process of science investigation. The week will culminate in a mini-science fair where students will show off their science lab skills as they conduct their favorite experiments and investigations from the week.
